Sample prepping food storage totals by Florida Prepper. Adjust for how many people in your home and how many days you want to have stored. Store only foods you will actually eat. I have dried beans listed but don't recommend them. (They take too much water and heat to prepare) Rotate food often. Date the items when storing. Total meals--One person in my home. Pasta 20lbs Included in meals totals Rice 80lbs Not counted in meals totals Flour 12lbs Not counted in meals totals Item Count Meals Rolled Oats 72 72 (I use 5 minute oats to save fuel) Grits 24 24 Ramen 12 12 Ragu 13 26 (Depending on size, could be 39 meals) Teriaki Rice 14 14 10 canned fish 10 10 Canned Ham 2 4 (For me, this could go 6 meals) Soup 26 26 Ready Meals 19 19 (Hormel Compleats and others) Meats/chicken 24 24 (Total meals probably higher) Chili 7 7 Hash 10 10 Beans Canned 20 20 (With rice could double) 2 lbs Beans 8 8 Diced Tom 4 4 Veggies 25 25 (Combined with rice for meals) Spam 7 14 Pancake Mix 6 40 (These mixes only need water, no eggs) Powdered eggs 144 48 (3 eggs per meal) Chef Boyardee 20 20 Canned Fruit 10 0 (not counted as meals) NOTE: I have Mulberry, apple, and Peach trees planted. Total Meals 427 This does not count any garden veggies added to rice. Rice is not figured as a meal but could be just by adding veggies or alone Adding rice or pasta to any item doubles it's count Hence meals easily can become days in SHTF Plus: 12 gravy mixes (Flavoring for Rice or other?) Misc spices for rice etc. 6 Minute Rice Boxes Just a rough guess but if I combine the above items with rice and garden veggies, I have over a year in food. Plus, I add a little more on a weekly basis. Perhaps $3-$4 worth. It builds up fast if you keep at it. Helpful Tip: As you add or subtract items, mark them down on a clipboard. That way you know what to replace. Copy and paste the following into your browser for some visual suggested items to store. http://www.florida-prepper.com/storedfood.html Join our Facebook Group.
